Secretary of State Jesse White presents ILF-Borders donation to SOW /TOW
Secretary of State / State Librarian Jesse White presented CSJ Mission Advancement Director Barb Bernhard with an ILF donation of $4,025 in Borders gift cards to support our literacy programs. Wanda Fisher, senior marketing manager for Borders (left) and board members of the Illinois Literacy Foundation (ILF) congratulated awards recipients at a reception held at the Borders
store on Michigan Avenue. The ILF donation program is awarded in partnership with the Secretary of State and BORDERS Group.
The Borders store in LaGrange raised the money for School on Wheels and Tutors on Wheels by making it possible for customers to donate $1 or more when they made a purchase. Thanks to the generosity of YOU, our neighbors in the LaGrange area, our literacy programs was among the top five literacy organizations in the amount of donations received. We used the donation to give students holiday gift cards to buy a book of their choice, gave 150 students their own pocket dictionaries and purchased books and audiocassettes for our literacy library.

Our first English As A Second Language Success Awards Night held in 2007 honored individuals who arrived from other countries, learned English and became successful in their diverse fields. Illinois Supreme Court Justice Thomas R. Fitzgerald (now Illinois Chief Justice) presented the awards at a ceremony attended by more than 200 guests at the CSJ Center in LaGrange Park.
