Tutors
on Wheels
A Division of School on Wheels
Tutors
on Wheels (TOW) is an adult literacy program that offers free
ESL classes to low-income minority immigrants living and working
in several suburban communities in DuPage County, Illinois: Naperville,
Wheaton, Glendale Heights, and Addison.
Sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph, students receive one-on-one tutoring
right in their own neighborhoods, job sites, or local Marilyn with Jorge
churches.
TOW builds on the Sisters' original literacy program, School on
Wheels, but is not attached to a mobile classroom. Volunteers go
to churches, businesses, or social service agencies and teach students
English literacy classes or GED, or offer help with passing the
citizenship test. Trainings of 2-3 hours and teaching materials
are provided.
