WORLD BOOK DAY CELEBRATION!

This year's English Success Awards ceremony was held

on April 23, 2009 in celebration of World Book Day.

The ENGLISH SUCCESS Awards honor individuals of different language backgrounds who learned English as a second language, achieved success, and now serve as role models for others. Award recipients share their personal stories of how they overcame challenges, learned English and became successful in their fields. They represent the spirit of determination of America's immigrants and inspire others to believe in the American Dream.

This year, Sr. Marybeth McDermott, founding director of School on Wheels, received the Lifetime Service to Literacy Award. Under her direction, School on Wheels has served more than 3,500 adults who live in Cook and DuPage Counties learn to speak, read and write English.
